I want to get things done. Plain and simple.
Because of that, I’m a bit paradoxical. For instance, I’m detail-oriented, but a big picture thinker. At the initiation of a project, I think about how the project fits into the bigger business goals because without those goals, the work begins feeling pointless and loses momentum. But, when the project gets into the planning phase, I am pulling in any detail I can find to make sure nothing is missed.
This simple desire to accomplish work lends itself to a very flexible communicative style. I want to communicate all the details I’ve internalized in the best way for the stakeholder. Email? Direct message? Phone call? Zoom call? Spreadsheets with pivot tables? Powerpoints with pie charts? You name it, I can communicate it so you understand.
I’m also a good listener. Like really good. I promise, you only have to tell me once that you HATE when someone sends you a direct message with, “Do you have a second?” More importantly, you can count on me for gathering great requirements and finding obscure discrepancies. My ears are always open and my mind is always putting pieces together. My ability to problem solve comes directly from my ability to listen.
Which brings me to my naturally organized nature. A place for everything and every thing in its place plays on repeat in my subconscious. Even when things aren’t in their place, they’re in a place that’s queued up for being in their place. This helps me to keep a steady pace of work and make the heavier seasons manageable.
